Styles of Hearing Aids
Invisible-in-Canal (IIC) - The IIC is the newest style of hearing aid, and offers a discreet solution to hearing loss. These aids are contained in a tiny case that fits deep in the ear canal, and is virtually invisible. They are the smallest aids available for mild to moderately-severe hearing loss.
Completely-in-Canal (CIC) - The CIC is a small hearing aid that fits into the opening of the ear canal. The CIC is more powerful than ever before, and it is a cosmetically appealing solution for mild to severe hearing loss.
In-the-Canal (ITC) - This type of hearing aid fits partly in the canal and partly in the outer ear. They are matched to your skin tone, and easy to insert and remove.
In-the-Ear (ITE) - An ITE is the largest custom instrument. The hearing aid sits in the outer portion of the ear. For those with manual dexterity issues, it is easier to manipulate than smaller custom instruments.
Receiver-in-Canal (RIC) - The RIC is a small, discreet aid that fits behind the ear. The speaker of the hearing aid fits down in the ear canal, while leaving the ear canal open. RICs are ideal for those with high frequency hearing loss. The aid can be ordered to match either skin or hair color.
Open Fit Behind-the-Ear (Open Fit BTE) - This small BTE has a slim tube that fits down in the ear canal. It is similar to the RIC, except the speaker is located in portion of the aid behind the ear. The clear tube can be changed easily, which is ideal for those with excessive ear wax. The aid can be ordered to match either skin or hair color.
Standard Behind-the-Ear (Standard BTE) - The BTE is a hearing aid that fits behind your ear and is connected by a tube to a custom earmold in your ear. This style is commonly chosen for children for safety and growth reasons. For adults, the BTE offers the most powerful speakers available and is good for those with manual dexterity issues. It can be ordered to match either skin or hair color, or in bright, fun colors for kids.
